Ex-Presidents Walk/Meal |

Meeting at Leghton Moss car park, the members led by ex-President John Peat made their way across the golf course to the beautiful coastal scenery around Jack Scout (below left) and on to Jenny Browns Point (below right). Following the old dyke (bottom left) used to reclaim land, the group then ascended Warton Crag (bottom right) to finish in the Canal Turn Pub in Carnforth. |

The first slideshow of the winter season was a two-handed affair. Mick was first up with a slideshow of the club's trip to the Pyreneese. This was followed by Angie and Hugh showing some slides of their holiday in the Dolomites - see the June Gallery. Right shows part of the room when the sandwiches arrived! |

The middle of the month saw the weather suddenly turn cold, and by the 19th, there were small patches of snow to be seen on Fairfield and Helvellyn - see below as seen from Harter Fell Mardale. Well I did say 'small' patches!
The Mid-week Walk was organised by Colin & Val Hunter, and 15 members plus one dog met up at Mungrisedale by the Village Hall. With the surrounding tops clear, but cloud on Blencathra, we set off up the valley following the River Glenderamackin. A stop for a drink was made at the foot of White Horse Bent, followed by an ascent onto the top of Souter Fell. A lovely walk along the top of the ridge brought us back to Mungrisedale, and a drink at the Old Mill Inn. Thanks to Colin & Val. |

We have just heard of the death in September of Walter Bonatti, the foremost climber/mountaineer of his generation, and for some ' 'the finest Alpinist there has ever been'. See here for an obituary.
Fellrunners within the club will be sad to hear of the death of Bill Smith, who along with Fred Rogerson and Stan Bradshaw formed part of the bedrock of modern-day fell running. See his obituary by Selwyn Wright in the Guardian.
